Here’s a mini web-version of Ian Haig‘s “Eastland Shopping Centre, September 1975” which is featured in the Bon Scott Project Exhibition at Fremantle Arts Centre. Thanks Ian for sending it through! On page 171 of Highway to Hell: The Life and Death of Bon Scott, Clinton Walker’s writes:

the band played a free show at the Eastlands Shopping Centre in Ringwood, between 6 and 7 pm, and then later they appeared at the International Hotel.

That’s all he says… So, what happened at that gig? And why is it significant for Ian?

Bon’s Letters a big hit…

More documentation from the Bon Scott Project Exhibition is still trickling through. Here are some great photos from the launch night showing the crowd fascinated with Bon’s letters. At one stage I noticed the door had to be shut, and people could come in only when someone else went out.

Phew. There’s a bit of data-processing to get through now that the exhibition is open to the public. To keep you entertained in the meantime, here are a few more things from the show!

Scott Redford made this great wallpaper from a photo by Philip Morris. It fills two walls of this sexy room that also contains Cecilia Fogelberg’s great little statue of Bon singin’ with his cock:

Reunions at the Gallery

It was a big night for reunions! Here I am in my Bon Scott Nook with Veronica and Stevo. I’d just finished explaining their story to my friend Mish (using a photo pinned onto the wall behind the beanbag as a visual aid) when, speak of the devil, they showed up! By this stage of the evening my camera had run out of batteries, so Mish snapped this one off on her mobile phone.

Oh, and some lovely comments came through last night! Thanks Alyssa, Susan from Alabama, Andrew, Rich from Montana, and of course, the ever loyal Pablo from Argentina.

Ben Scott, the lovechild, was stuck in Esperance (8 hours drive south of Perth) and so didn’t make it, although plenty of people at the exhibition asked after him. But I heard on the grapevine that he was the first caller to speak to Bon through Madam TV’s professional mourning service, so I guess he was here “in spirit”, so to speak…

Here Come the Artists!

With less than three weeks to go til the Bon Scott Project Exhibition, the artists in the show are applying the finishing touches to their artworks. On Friday, Jasmin and I jumped in the car and headed out to the suburbs to meet Eli Smith. Eli is working on an oil painting of Bon. In the picture above, you can see Eli testing out an ornate gold frame for the piece.
